It seems like the days linger. It seems like the weekend will never arrive. It seems like the month drudges on and on and on. And, it seems like the seasons will never change. We’ve celebrated holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays as we’ve progressed through this occasion and that occasion.

Last Friday we gathered to celebrate my niece’s sixteenth birthday. Yes, sixteenth birthday. How did that happen I wondered. Sixteen? How could she be sixteen already? Wasn’t she just a toddler like yesterday? Wasn’t she just learning to ride a bike? And now, now she tells me she is learning to drive a car! Then, there’s my daughter. She’s going to be a junior in college. How can this be? Ummm, wasn’t she just like a junior in high school yesterday? It literally seems like yesterday. I love watching our children grow. I truly do. We’ve created memories that will be cherished forever and ever. Memories and traditions that they one day will share with their family.

This past weekend was no exception. My daughter Maddie decided she wanted to make Cara a very special sweet sixteen cake. I practically cried when Maddie showed me her finished masterpiece. Yes, we were all wowed! Just looking at these two girls brings me joy. They are growing up to be fine young adults. What I know for sure is that time really does fly. It’s not just a cliche. It’s oh so true!

I hear you. I’ve got two boys and they’re growing so fast. I’m so excited to see the people they’ll grow into but sad, too as I watch the little boys disappear and become men. Bittersweet.
Time goes so slow and so fast! What a beautiful cake. It looks too goo to eat!
OMG that cake is AMAZING!! You are right, time does fly too fast.
Uh … I dread hearing these words as my girls are six and growing up too fast! It’s hard being the parent … Wanting more than anything for kids to grow up and be independent, but there are moments when we just want them to stay little.
And that cake!!! When I first saw it I thought it had to be professionally created! Wow! That is amazing cake skills!!!
Although we have no children, I certainly agree that time flies. I can’t believe that I have been retired 3 years. I can’t believe that it has been 3 months since my heart surgery. It is true, the older I get the quicker time seems to fly.
Yes, absolutely true. Look for Nichole Nordeman “Slow Down” and watch the beautiful video.
Thanks for sharing. Beautiful! It brought tears to eyes!
Wow, your daughter made that cake – fabulous!
What a wonderful gift from your daughter to her cousin! Those are the memories and connections that bring the sweet to bittersweet as time flies by…
