I’m going! Are you?

I love the thrill of a conference!

I love attending with my friends!

I love meeting new people!

I love meeting famous people!

I love purchasing books!

Yes, I’m going! I’ll be attending the Scholastic Reading Summit this summer in Washington, D.C. I attended last year so when I found out the event would be hosted “locally” again this year I knew I couldn’t pass it up.

What I like most about this conference is that it is completely centered around independent reading and the presenters who host the event are phenomenal. Donalyn Miller and┬áJohn Schumacher are just two of the speakers that I look forward to hearing. Even Clifford the Big Red Dog is there! While this conference is just a one day conference, it will end up being a bit of a “girls’ getaway”. Last year a few of us went a day early, treated ourselves to a spa treatment, and enjoyed a relaxing dinner. We plan on doing the same thing again this year. I hope I will see some Slice of Life bloggers on my travels. Don’t hesitate to leave a comment or a send me a tweet so we can meet up in person!

I would also love to hear if you are attending any other conferences in the near future, so please do share!

great friends + great books = a great conference

  1. I remember being envious when you went last year, Amy, and I can’t wait to read about your experiences and take-aways. I’m heading to the TC-Reading Session in NYC in late June.

  2. Your enthusiasm is contagious in this slice. I think conferences are so important for us as educators. It keeps us current, caring and connected. Enjoy and share what you’ve learned!

  3. Attending good conferences is energizing. I’ve always enjoyed them both as presenter and attendee. Sounds like the Scholastic Conference is right up your alley, Amy.

  4. Congrats on the opportunity. Great way to squeeze in a poem. That’s the gift of teaching – it keeps on giving. Plus, this reprieve s the shot in the arm that reignites our purpose in sharing our love of literacy. Enjoy!

  5. Oh, you lucky person! We, living in Maine, rarely get out to those big time events! They are all so far away it seems when you are tucked up in the corner of the country. Have a great time!

  6. Yea! Last summer, this conference was a huge success! Lots of tweets! I think there is one closer to me this year. I will need to check it out. Thanks for the reminder.

  7. The reasons you list are the reasons I enjoy attending the PCTELA Conference each October. This year it is in Pittsburgh. Because it is a statewide conference it is smaller than a national one. It is a great place to reconnect with friends and hear fantastic speakers. This year we have Laurie Halse Anderson as a featured speaker.
